Tasty Thursday: One Pan, Two Plates Review

It’s that time of the week to discuss what we’ve been eating. When I sat down to start writing, I realized that everything we ate came from our favorite cookbook – One Pan, Two Plates by Carla Snyder.

We were introduced to this cookbook at Christmas when at my brother-in-law’s house. He and his wife loved it and we tried a few recipes from there, then Christmas rolled around and opened our gift – they had gotten us the book. I’ve been raving about it to friends and family ever since.

Travel Tuesday: The Great PCS

When we were talking about our PCS (aka move) earlier this year, we at first thought that we’d go through California and see some new sites, but then we looked into going through Utah for a whole new route (we did California when we moved to Washington). As we did our research and talked to friends we realized that we definitely should do Utah. It would take a few extra days to see everything, but it would be epic. So we got to planning.

In total we were in 6 states on the drive, stopped at 5 National Parks, 1 National Historic Site, 3 state parks, 1 operating dam, and a lot of areas with little to no cell phone service.

Confession: I’m a liberal military spouse

For those of you that know me, this is no surprise. But to those of you that know me through my blog, you probably didn’t know this fun fact about me (unless you saw my recent guest post on NextGen MilSpouse or follow me on Twitter). But with the way the midterms election turned out and the beginning of the 2016 Presidential Campaign on us – I wanted to share. Why? Because it’s an important part of who I am and as this country moves forward, I want to share my opinions on issues, campaigns, and other political things that may come up. See, I’m a bit of a political junkie and I want to include some of that here on this blog.

So in the interest of sharing – here is this part of my story:

Tasty Thursday: Baking Adventures and Mediterranean Flavors

So I admit that we’ve been eating out a bit more than I’d like to and leftovers have lasted a few more days than I anticipated. We also grilled a meal this week with friends, steak, it was delicious, but doesn’t really go towards the count. But I made a loaf of bread in the last week and admittedly it is the best photo I took of our food from this week.

Travel Tuesday: The Mighty 5

On our PCS from Washington to Arizona we decided to go a different route – through Utah. This gave us the chance to see something new (on our way to WA we drove through California) and also explore some National Parks. Southern Utah is home to 5 National Parks that are dubbed “The Mighty Five.” The Mighty Five are: Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. We embarked on this journey and boy was it beautiful.

Tasty Thursday: Our Food Challenge

We recently moved back to Fort Huachuca where we lived right after we got married. During the few months we were here then I didn’t repeat a dinner once (that we can remember, there were probably a few repeats but very few). So we decided to try it again.

My Pinterest boards are bursting with ideas, and I don’t have a commute to cut into cooking time, so that extra time is going right to food planning and cooking! Now, we realize that the next few months that we are here it is likely that we will repeat a meal, but we are keeping a food journal and came up with a few rules. Hello Again

Hello!

First of all, welcome to the new site. I recently moved to a self-hosted site, so while all the content is still here, the site may have some hiccups. So please let me know if you see something that’s a bit amiss.

Secondly, I’m back again. I really wanted to blog more in the last year but with full-time work and 2 volunteer gigs, plus normal life, writing fell to the wayside. Let’s hope that this run lasts longer, I think it will.

Third, a quick update about what to expect on the blog. We just PCS’d and I’m doing part-time consulting/freelance work, so I’m hoping that translates to more time to dedicate here. Since I missed out on a few months of awesome WA adventures, I will post those here, albeit a bit late, as well as our PCS adventures to our new home in AZ. I’m also hoping to post more about politics, it is one of my passions, and we are entering the Presidential election season, so it’s bound to be exciting. As always, I will post about military life, delicious foods, and more. If you want to write anything let me know! New email is jessica@morethanamilitaryspouse.com.
